Dinner Party Success 101

While being interviewed by a local magazine, I was asked what I love to do. It was then that I realized how much I enjoy spending quality time with friends, especially by hosting dinner parties. However, it wasn't always smooth sailing. Over the years, I've discovered some fantastic hacks that have transformed hosting into a breeze, allowing me to entertain like a boss without getting bogged down in the details. Here are my tried and true dinner party success tips, learned from my own experiences, to help you impress your most discerning guests and make the most of your time together.

  1. Make a menu - My Secret Weapon: I've found that creating a simple, written menu is the ultimate multitasking hack. Your menu will serve as your shopping list and cooking timeline, keeping you organized and making preparing for the party much more manageable. Trust me, it's a game-changer.

  2. Plan room temperature items - My Fuss-Free Favorites: Incorporating room temperature items like charcuterie, cheese boards, and garden salads into my menu has been a lifesaver. This way, I only need to heat my main course and starch, such as steamed fish and rice or chicken breast and pasta, saving time and effort.

  3. Buy fresh and cook the night before - My Time-Saving Trick: After hosting numerous dinner parties, I learned to keep things efficient without sacrificing quality by prepping dishes the night before the party. I often grill my veggies while cooking my family's Thursday night dinner, and they're ready for my Friday dinner party.

  4. Save oven space - My Space-Saving Savior: After struggling with bulky trays, I started grilling my roasted veggies the night before and storing them in a foil envelope lined with organic parchment paper. This makes cleanup easy, saves space in the fridge and oven, and allows for quick serving.

  5. Be prepared - My Ready-to-Go Mindset: I learned that being prepared is key to entertaining like a boss. I always empty the trash before my guests arrive to avoid any embarrassment from an overflowing bin. I make sure my dishwasher is empty and ready to receive dishes, and I set up the coffee pots in advance, especially if my guests love fresh espresso and lattes. Doing most of the work beforehand allows me to relax and enjoy my company.

Conclusion: I hope my personal experiences and tips inspire you to light candles, play your favorite playlist (also prepared before guests arrive), and entertain like a boss. With a little planning and organization, you can effortlessly host a dinner party and create lasting memories with your friends.
